Rental Family

My review
A well-crafted and understated film that finds its strength in warmth, restraint, and performance. Its humour is gentle but well placed and lands well, the emotional moments build and hit hard, and the acting across the board gives the film a real sincerity. Highly recommend this one.
Plot overview
An American actor in Tokyo struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese 'rental family' agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients' worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality.
